What is a Radiator Recore?

Traditionally, before the widespread availability of new complete Truck Radiators, the best option for a failed Truck or Industrial Radiator was a Recore.  But what exactly is a recore?

A Truck Radiator typically consists of 5 major components:  The inlet and outlet tanks, the 2 side rails or frame and the core.   The tanks are typically made of either brass or steel and the side rails are made of steel.  These parts can usually be reconditioned and reused much like an engine block during a rebuild.  However, the core which consist of tubes and fins will typically start to rot with age.   A Radiator Recore means the replacement of this key component and the resuse of the more robust tanks and frame.

A true Radiator Recore is a complete disassembly and rebuilding of the Radiator.   At SFR, these are the staeps that we follow:

1)  Analyze, measure and mark radiator before disassembly.

2)  Analyze core specifications to ensure that we are meeting or exceeding the Cooling specifications of the original design.  SFR NEVER cuts corners on core cooling capacity.

3)  Disassemble, Inspect and Recondition all parts that are to be reused in Radiator Recore.

4)  Assemble New Radiator Core using reconditioned components.  This includes new 1 piece gaskets (in the case of bolt on Radiators) and all new top lock nuts and bolts.

5)  Pressure test Radiator Recore in our test Tank.

6)  Dry Radiator Recore and paint with anticorrosive paint.

All our Radiator Recores are carry the same warranty as new units.   Trust SFR to Recore that hard to find Truck Radiator or Recore that Expensive Genset Radiator.   Call the experts at SFR 201-864-6535.
